Long Island Trade Group Honors Four Local Businesses

A specialty food business, a technology company, an advisory firm and a mental health organization were honored this week by the HIA-LI, the trade group for the Hauppauge Industrial Park.

The group held its 23rd annual Business Achievement Awards luncheon Wednesday at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, where it recognized the four:

  • In the large business category: Castella Imports, a Hauppaugue importer and maker of specialty foods such as tapenades, oils and vinegars, led by CEO Chris Valsamos.
  • In the small business category: Omnicon Group in Hauppauge, a provider of software, electronics and safety engineering for the aerospace and transportation industries, led by CEO Scott Abrams.
  • Rookie of the year: Protegrity Advisors of Ronkonkoma and Bridgehampton, a firm that advises businesses on mergers and acquisitions and valuation, led by CEO Gregg Schor and president Bruce Newman.
  • In the not-for-profit category: Association for Mental Health and Wellness, a service and advocacy group based in Ronkonkoma, led by CEO Michael Stoltz.

The groups were judged on employer/employee relations, commitment to the growth of the Long Island business community, and their three- to five-year vision for their future, among other measures.
